Joss is an occasional thematic poetry magazine
edited by Molly Russakoff, Ish Klein and
Dan Labeau. Joss is a pidgin English term
for a Chinese idol or deity. We thought it
would be nice to do this magazine because Joss
papers are so cool and cheap at the Asian
groceries and would make a nice looking cover.
Joss paper is burned at funerals so the departed
can take some of our earthly pleasures and good
wishes with them to the afterlife. The theme of
each issue is determined by the look of the
joss paper.
The first issue of Joss is composed of poems
about people. Future issues will include: poems
about animals, poems about money, poems about hell,
short poems, fragrant poems and others, yet to be
determined.
If you'd like to submit poems to Joss on any
of the themes mentioned, you can send them to:
Joss c/o Molly's Café & Bookstore
1010 S. 9th Street Philadelphia, PA 19147
or email to Joss@comcast.net.
Joss will cost $2.00 per issue and will be
available at Molly's or by mail order.
